Mosaic Monday: Christmas Market Collages

2010-11-27 christmas market collage 1

A “Santaland” is built up in the town square for December. Santa himself is still sleeping, but activity might increase as we get closer to Christmas. In the tent, reminding of a Lapp cot, hot drinks are served.

In front of the old town hall, big Advent candles are lighted (one for each Sunday, or in this case Saturday, before Christmas). Advent hymns are sung by choirs from the different churches. To the fountain in the middle of the square, a special winter decoration has been added to replace the usual running water.

Shopping is encouraged by extra Christmas markets held both indoors and outdoors. The yellow wooden building is one of few remaining wooden houses in town (most were destroyed in fires long ago). It is used for art classes and other study circles, and sometimes exhibitions and markets.

For more mosaics, visit Mary’s Little Red House.

Well, I see you did NOT build that fire, this is the one on your other blog. I love these collages, you have shown us a whole lot in them! I like the idea of a sleeping Santa. And that fountain, you could have fooled me, it looks like water coming out.

These collages are beautiful Dawn, I am really enjoying seeing your town, the Christmas decorations, the buildings are so lovely, it looks like such a wonderful place to live.
I don't have anything so beautiful where I live, I was only thinking this last night after seeing your other post on your town and the lovely Advent Star, I hope to find one for my window it would look so lovely.

Wonderful collages...makes me wish I could be there! Being married into a Scandinavian family, I know I would really enjoy this.

Oh how I wish that we had such Christmas markets here in Canada. There's something so lovely about walking around on a crisp December day, sipping a hot drink, smelling the roasting almonds and peeking at all the lovely things for sale. I loved this mosaic!
