A Day for Swedish Colours

From a celebration of the National Day of Sweden on 6 June in my home town.

On 19 June this year there will be a lot of flag-waving too, because today (in Stockholm) our Crown Princess Victoria, also Duchess of Västergötland, is getting married to Daniel Westling – a “man of the people”, who after the wedding will be entitled Prince, and Duke of Västergötland.

The media have been full of wedding talk and royal gossip for weeks and months back… I wonder if the hype will last, or if when the wedding is over it will be like letting the air out of a balloon? By the way, I read in the paper (Friday) that the couple have decided they want no fireworks, no balloons, and no confetti – out of concern for the environment.

On this blog I usually only publish my own photos. But I’ll make an exception:

I never get enough of those pretty blue and yellow colors. I see the princess is wearing them, too! He does look just a bit stuffy compared to her, but I do think I see a bit of light blue in his tie. Surely there's something they can use in the celebration that wouldn't hurt the environment? What's wrong with the balloons? Is it that when they land, animals can choke on them or something? Here, we used to throw rice at weddings, but the birds would eat the raw rice and it would swell up in their stomachs and kill them. So now at lots of weddings, the guests are given little jars of bubble liquid and wands, and as the bride and groom are leaving, bubbles are blown at them!! I don't think this causes any harm to anything.

What the Crown Princess is wearing in this pictures is known as the Swedish National Costume. You will find full pictures of it if you google "sverigedräkten".

I can't believe you found your state colors in nature. I don't think i have much chance of finding red, white and blue, but I might just look for it. thanks again for sharing all this, i am loving the fairy princess story.
the ballons are illegal her ein florida. they kill fish and the dolphins try to eat them and they get stuck in their blow holes and the whales die fromthem, the birds try to eat them and suffocate and the predators take them to their nest to build the nest and the babies chokes on them, they also never go away, just float for ever.

For this blog, I have chosen a template that allows me to show pictures as big as possible . Some of the things you usually find in the sidebar, you will find here at the bottom of the page instead - Blog Archive, Followers etc.

My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4600.
For basic editing of most photos and collages I use Picasa 3.
Sometimes I also experiment with some more "artistic" effects in Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro.
