One day there was this unusal sight in the river. It was definitely not one of the usual mallards, so I had to go home and have a look in my bird book. Arrived at the conclusion that it must be a Bucephala clangula / Common Goldeneye / knipa. According to my book and Swedish Wikipedia both, it is more common in the north of Sweden, but not so often seen here in the southern parts.

How cool! I remember seeing ducks I didn't recognize when I first moved: they fascinated me for months! I never bothered to check what they were, though. You're several steps ahead of me on that!
Dawn Treader...this is really a neat picture. The bird and the slight reflection of it in the water and muted colors..it looks like a painting.

I saw the same bird again today in the river - just one, among a lot of mallards, so I'm guessing it is the same individual. Today I was too far away from him to take a photo, though.
